Talk to your contractors

I’m learning the value of talking to your contractors. You may think, of course you have to talk to them at some point. But what I’m referring to is the full picture of meeting them, treating them with respect, acknowledging them as experts, and asking questions.

I’ve found that asking questions about the problem and solution can help clarify the work that’s being done, both for them and for you.

There’s a time to give space and just let them work and complete the project. However, most of the time, I’ve found that the people I’ve hired are happy to share their knowledge and show what they’re doing and how they are solving the problem.

And almost every time, I walk away with a new insight about how to solve problems or some kind of beneficial information that can help with planning a future project. And in the best cases, I’ve also made a new friend.
